Salam,

MIST Nationals will be taking place July 30th to August 1st @ University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Did you make it on the team? In order to qualify, you have to finish in the top 5 in any competition.

As of right now, fees and registration are still being determined for Nationals. We are asking people to raise money on their own for this. Including MIST Nationals registration, transportation and accommodations, expect entire costs to be over $250 per person. We’re trying our best to subsidize these costs but we should plan for the worst case scenario.

We’d like a big team representing Toronto inshAllah.

NOTE: Improv, Business Venture and all three French competitions were PILOT competitions for Toronto meaning winners from these competitions are not qualified for Nationals. You can still come to cheer stuff on.

Here are the list of qualified people for each competition:

Team in Semis #1
Team in Semis #2

Ready? If not, you better get ready. Basketball will kick things off on Friday night and MIST officially begins on Saturday morning inshAllah.

Schedule is now posted!

The most-up-to-date schedule with brackets, basketball opponents and workshops is finally here.
Schedule posted here.

Basketball Information

Basketball is only compulsory for people who are assigned to it. The entire team does not need to be there.
It will be 3-on-3, NCAA format. Two halves with ten minutes each and a break in-between.

The location is at the HoopDome. For some strange reason, if you use GPS, MapQuest or Google Maps then you will get lost. Confusing, I know.

Please follow these directions closely: http://www.hoopdome.com/contact_us.aspx

MIST Toronto has booked off four courts. We are doing the best we can to accommodate segregation.
Sisters please wear hijabs as there isn’t total privacy on the court (it’s very open).

Please have your basketball team at HoopDome by 4:30pm so we can register you. Please bring valid School IDs. If your team does not show up at its scheduled match time it’ll count as an automatic loss. Schedule for basketball is posted below in schedule section.

If your team isn’t on schedule, they most likely were merged with another team because there were less than 3 people.

Dinner is not included on Friday night. Please make your own arrangements. You will get lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday (included in registration costs).

Rules and Other Boring Stuff (But Very Important)

There are a few things that you’ll have to keep note of (please comply so we don’t have to scream at you during the weekend).
- Dress code is business casual. You can wear shirts if it’s something coordinated with your school. You CANNOT wear jeans. You CANNOT wear tight-fitting clothing (both genders).
- If you’re coming from a private school or a school with uniform, please comply by those standards as you’re still representing your school.
- No swearing and other profane language. That’s pretty obvious.
- No putting down other teams. Friendly smacktalk is fine to a certain degree. Anything that is hurtful or discouraging will NOT be tolerated (ie. booing, hissing etc).

Registration Arrival Times

Saturday morning is when MIST kicks off. Before you can participate in your competition, you will need to show up at registration.
Each school will have different arrival times. It’ll be like an airport.

But Remember!

The most important thing is to come with proper intentions and have fun! Be loud! Have creative chants. This is what MIST is all about. I’ll see you all this weekend inshAllah.
